Therapeutic Applications and Clinical Trials in Europe
In Europe, therapeutic applications of bacteriophages are expanding, with numerous clinical trials underway to evaluate their efficacy in treating various infections. The European Union has funded several research projects focusing on phage therapy, aiming to address the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Countries like Poland and Georgia have a long history of using phage therapy, and their expertise is being leveraged in collaborative research efforts. For instance, the EU-funded PhagoBurn project is investigating the use of phage therapy for treating burn wound infections, while the Phage4Cure project is exploring phage-based treatments for chronic otitis media.
These initiatives are not only advancing scientific knowledge but also paving the way for the integration of phage therapy into mainstream medical practice in Europe.
